Introducing Spring

Spring has arrived! Some would say it arrived early this year with unseasonably warm weather in August (apart from the Snow Storm).  More blue sky and mild temperatures have accompanied the introduction of spring in Lake Tekapo. While the weather has been amazing, it also unfortunately means the Snow Tube Slope is melting rather fast. You know what this means…. Time is running out to experience the Snow Tubing slope for the last time in 2011!

Lake Tekapo has had a fantastic week with numerous tourism operators in the region winning awards. Following on from Alpine Springs 2010 success as the South Canterbury Tourism and Hospitality Supreme Award winner, we’re delighted that at last Friday evening’s finals Earth & Sky won the Visitor Attractions and Activity Experience section, and Peppers Bluewater Resort won the Classic Accommodation Experience section. Congratulations! But it does not stop there; Air Safaris achieved Scenic Flight Category Winner, NZ wide for a second year running with Glacier Explorers the other Mackenzie finalist in Rankers.co.nz annual awards. Well-done Tekapo!

Alpine Springs has again been graced with the presence of several Schools throughout the week. Teachers and students alike have been putting their balance to the test learning how to Ice Skate and flying down the Snow tubing slope at Alpine Springs. It would be fair to say the young students are faster learners than their own teachers. Homemade toasties have been flying out the door in the Café along with the school lunches prepared by the fantastic staff at Alpine Springs. Enjoy a range of snacks and beverages as you enjoy Alpine Springs.

Alpine Springs would like to thank Temuka Primary School, Taieri Beach School, Ardgowan School, St Josephs School and Ocean View Heights School for being part of an enjoyable week at Alpine Springs.

Karl’s Cup was contended this week at Alpine Springs by the local U13 teams playing each other. This was a fantastic night, where Karl’s Cup was awarded and following the U13 Ice Hockey game parents partook in a friendly game with the teams. The U13 Teams are made up of local youths who play against each other over the winter, it is effectively one club. This was another fun and social night at Alpine Springs as the youth ran away with the game through superior skating skills and fitness.
