Fine Sky’s and Radio Highs

The weather this week has been… well perfect! Clear blue sky with some surprisingly warm temperatures gives the impression spring has come early. Funnily enough it follows a snowstorm early last week. The warmer temperatures have seen the snow on the ground in Lake Tekapo all but melt disappear.  Not to fear the Alpine Springs Snow Tubing Slope is in great condition tucked into the side of Mt John!

The blue sky and snow covered Mackenzie landscape in the earlier half of the week provided some spectacular views over Lake Tekapo and the Two Thumb Range from the Hot Pools. Several Schools from the Region have visited this week, enjoying Ice Skating, Hot Pools and of course the Snow Tubing Park! Alpine Springs would like to thank the teachers and students at the below schools for such a fun week!

Grantlea School, Mt Aspiring College, St Patrick’s School Waimate, Waimataitai School, Highfiled School and Fairley Primary School.

Alpine Springs was also fortunate enough to get a visit from OJ and Kirsty of PORT FM.  The two characteristic radio presenters have been out on their annual tour of the Mackenzie region, experiencing some of the great attractions the region offers. They got to experience Ohau Ski Field, Omarama Hot Tubs, Earth and Sky and Alpine Springs Snow Tubing Park! What a life!

OJ and Kirsty arrived at Alpine Springs on Thursday afternoon and it’s fair to say Kirsty was a tad nervous. OJ on the other hand couldn’t wait to get going and immediately asked for the fastest Snow Tube, then he was off, getting some great air over the jump. Kirsty, a tad more hesitant got in her tube and was off on her first ever Snow Tubing experience, the result? Possibly the biggest smile of the year at Alpine Springs! Both were immediately straight back on the magic carpet for another ride, and another, and another!  Thank you to OJ and Kirsty for a fantastic afternoon at Alpine Springs and for promoting the Mackenzie region, New Zealand’s hidden gem.

On another exciting note, planning continues to progress around the Under the Big Sky concert, scheduled for Saturday December 3rd 2011 at Alpine Springs this looks to be one of the biggest events of the year in Lake Tekapo. Come along and enjoy Aly Cook and The Coal Rangers and Eddie Simon and Blue Train as the main acts of the night. Watch this Space!
